A solution for filtering ban evaders/alts. Improving connectivity for players who rely on vpn
I think the server should reconsider its VPN policy.
Right now, getting around a ban is way too easy. Someone gets banned, turns on a VPN, makes another account, and they're back. It feels like bans don't really mean much when people can bypass them so easily.
If you look at the recent offenders page, a huge amount of it is ban evaders and alt accounts. It happens so often that it's become a normal thing to see. Staff ban someone, and then there's a good chance they'll just come back on another account. The current VPN policy makes that a lot easier than it should be.
I know the main reason VPNs are allowed is because the server is hosted in France, and players from places like Asia or the Americas can have connection issues. That's a fair concern, and I understand why the server wants those players to be able to play.
But I don't think allowing unrestricted VPN usage is the best solution. It solves one problem while creating another much bigger one. The server ends up dealing with a constant flow of alts and ban evaders because there isn't much preventing them from coming back.
Instead of relying on VPNs as the fix for connectivity problems, I think the focus should be on improving connectivity for players who are far away from the server. If players from other regions had a better connection without needing a VPN, there would be much less reason to keep VPNs fully open in the first place.
This would also help enforce rules automatically. Right now, staff have to constantly deal with people bypassing punishments. With stricter VPN restrictions and better connectivity solutions for legitimate players, a lot of those ban evasion attempts could be stopped before they even happen.
I'm not saying VPNs need to be completely banned overnight, but the current situation clearly isn't working. When a large part of the recent offenders page is made up of ban evaders and alts, that's a sign that something needs to change. Improving connectivity for distant players while reducing reliance on VPNs seems like a much better long-term solution than continuing to allow something that is so heavily abused.Posted in General for GLOBAL, status closed, Upvotes: 3, Downvotes: -1
